From The President
Two hundred
and fifteen years after the founding fathers of our country came together
in Philadelphia to sign the Declaration of Independence, eleven dedicated
individuals petitioned the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners to form
the Philadelphia Area Chapter. On June 5, 1991, the Board of Regents approved
the application for Chapter Number 24.
From its meager
beginnings, many Chapter members have dedicated significant time and effort
to nurture the growth and development of the Chapter. M.D. Oppenheim and
Company, P.C. (Certified Public Accountants) has also been an integral supporter
and sponsor of our chapter. They have provided administrative, financial
and professional support over the years and their staff and partners continue
to assist the chapter. In June, 1997, the Chapter incorporated under the
Not-for-Profit Laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Today, the Chapter
has a membership of almost two hundred Chapter activities include bi-monthly
luncheon meetings, joint sponsorship of a two-day training seminar with the
Association, a Chapter Newsletter and Web site (www.philacfe.com) and annual
social events. This year, the Chapter will be hosting its 9th Annual All-Day
Fraud Training Conference. In years past, this event has drawn speakers and
seminar participants from Federal, State and Local Government Agencies and
Law Enforcement, private investigators, accountants, lawyers, and corporate
security personnel, to name a few.
As we begin
a new century and the new millennium, we must pause to look back upon the
accomplishments and growth of our Chapter. The Philadelphia Area Chapter
of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Inc. is a well respected
organization that is an asset to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
and a direct reflection upon the dedication of many individuals.
